We --(well while they slept 'till 11) I planned our first day exploring. Only deadline we had to do today was to drop Koestler off at Camp Illahee in Brevard by 4 where she is a junior councilor.

So we left Charles' house in Asheville around 12 and headed into Brevard to catch lunch. The kids are finally taking over some of our travel. Koestler drove and did great, Kat loaded Yelp on her phone and learned how to filter while Joan made the phone calls and set reservations.

Kat found a great lunch stop in Brevard, Joan got us a reservation, and Koestler drove us there.

We all had a hard time choosing but eventually go the Brussels and a Carolina Burger.

We then went to tour the interpretive signage and accessibility options at the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education.

Love how these signs show simple ways that citizens can help out in their own spaces!

The fisheries were pretty impressive. These guys are released into the rivers.

The fish are really cool to watch but the photo below doesn't really capture how cool it is.

Love the idea of partnership as described below. Government understanding the importance of the schools, businesses, and individuals all being part of the solution.

This cute little fella came out to see us.

This sign was placed just over a small stream that resembled the one in the photo. Koes stated she'd come here often from camp to do exactly this. I also spent much of my time in Xochimilco, Mexico looking for small invertebrates in the water as they indicated the health of the ecosystem. If the most sensitive to pollution are gone, there's a problem. This is simple stuff kids have fun doing.

This sign is very relevant to our farm at school as we are at the top of the Watershed for a main river which drains into the sensitive Delta. We have a similar sign.

Here is our school sign we had designed describing the importance of managing watersheds and also showing our ecological address. Glad to see we are nailing it with the information provided by our signs at school.

And ours showing our attempts to manage stormwater.

Love the use of quotes here. Says enough!

My little sidekicks ready to brave Sliding Rock!

Assessing how clothe water is going to be.

Going for it!

That person getting out looks really cold!

Headed home via the Blue Ridge Pkwy

Love seeing them enjoy this beautiful part of the country!

What a great day of travel and learning! So excited to see the Botanical Gardens tomorrow while these two tackle the sky on the zip-line.
